Paul Klee, but it was not my inspiriration...

the other day when browsing through Pinterest, another data eating site ;), I couldn't believe it when I saw a painting by Paul Klee, similar to this one:

I vaguely remember learning about Paul Klee  at school but obviously it did not make a lasting impact, lol

My recent paintings:

So today I went to a long overdue visit to the library I read up on paintings by PK and am delighted to be in such good company... Painting the mosaic patterns satisfies my need to paint linear, being a very logic, linear thinking person.

Something in the book inspired me for another mosaic kind painting which I was contemplating for a while already.

some sketches....

Well, I have been offline for a while, I came to the end of my data bundle earlier than expected... But I believe everything happens for a reason, so I used this time to get my 'house in order' so to speak, as I am planning to put my house on the market and move south, somewhere in the Fish Hoek/Simonstown area.

But even though my body was sore from all the lifting, bending, climbing up the ladder etc etc, I did mange to do some sketches.

A loose sketch done with charcoal on a slightly rough paper

Also with charcoal on ordinary sketching paper. Now let's see how I can incorporate this into a painting...

One confused Artist - Final

Remember who you are... just 4 words but how mind changing they were for me during the last week and are still continuing to be; a sentence engraved into my mind.
A phrase I hope to  remember when my mind tells me to do things my heart very well knows are not right for me.

Who am I, who am I in my painting, what was my mission when I started out? During my exploration I came back to my Artist's Statement:

I paint intuitively. My paintings are an expression of mood put onto canvas by means of colour, texture and composition.

Read the full statement here: http://www.artbyangelique.blogspot.com/p/my-artist-statement.html

This Monday I started painting again and here are my two first paintings, both of them called childhood memories. Reason being that during the painting process the colours reminded me of a blanket, mainly green in colour but it had squares and different colours on it. It was not one of these soft blanket you get today, quite rough in texture and I think, no I am quite sure it was a woolen blanket. So here they are:

Childhood Memories, I am Loved

Acrylic on
18 x 24" = 46 x 61 cm

 Childhood Memories, I am Safe
 Acrylic on

18 x 24" = 46 x 61 cm

Follow your heart  because your heart knows best and then as my late mother used to say:
Do your best and do it well...

One confused Artist. #2

The last few weeks I worked on finding my love and excitement to create art again.

Here is what I did:

First I cleaned up my studio, this usually helps but not this time :(
Then I started working some of the exercise of the  'Artist's Way'
After that I started working my house, de-cluttering, re-decorating, moving furniture the whole thing... it was back braking at times but out of it came a beautiful calm space...
As I was working on my house, removing some of my old paintings, putting up some of my even older paintings, my mind wandered, how were these paintings different, what state of mind was I in when I painted those, how do I feel now looking at the older one's compared to the latest?

And slowly, very slowly I am feeling I am coming back to my own style again.

Today, after a long time I painted again, more of studies at this time, putting some of my ideas on canvas.

Part 3 to follow soon, hopefully ;)

One confused Artist....

You must paint big,
You must paint small,
Now I don't paint at all

You must paint in oil,
You must paint with acrylics,
Now I don't paint at all

You must paint landscape,
You must  paint portrait,
Now I don't paint at all

You must charge big,
you must charge small,
Now I don't charge at all....

I put this little poem together which I think may highlight some of the confusion, some novice artists  might find themselves. But may be there is a little something I can share in my next post on how to get your mojo back...
